This week we will begin an author study on Dr Seuss, we will continue this through his Birthday on March 2. Our focus letter this week is the letter B. We will also be continuing our nutrition education program sponsored by Michigan State University Extension programs. This past week we studied Dairy and sorted foods that are Dairy products and foods that are not.
Recently we have had a lot of toys from home making there way into the Preschool room. Children are welcome to bring a rest time friend from home that stays in their rest bag or back pack for the other parts of the day. Please remind your child to leave other toys at home, preschool cannot guarantee the safety of these toys and would not want a loved toy to become lost or broken. The rest time bags also came home for washing this weekend, this is a good time to make sure your child has a full weather appropriate change of clothes in their bag.
Kindergarten Round-ups are starting soon, please refer to the Ann Arbor Public School website for a complete schedule of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Kindergarten Round-up dates and times. Thurston's Kindergarten Round up is Thursday, February 22 from 6-7:30. We are also holding a Preschool Open house that night so be sure to pass the word on to any prospective Preschool parents interested in the 18-19 school year.
National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is Monday, February 12. All parents are invited to come and spend some time with the preschool class for part or all of the day.
Preschool will be doing a Valentines exchange. The Valentine Exchange is optional, if you choose to exchange Valentines here are a couple of things to keep in mind. If your Valentines include a sweet treat please remember that we do have peanut/nut, milk, and egg allergies in the classroom, please check to make sure your treats do not contain these items, also when writing out your child's Valentines it is easier for delivery if they are not made out to a specific friend. Please leave the To blank and only have your child write their name in the From area. There are 16 friends in preschool.
Safe Tips From Haven the Heron: Week of 2/5/18
SCHOOL SAFETY TIP: Last week Officer Adkins shared a letter addressing some ways we can work together to make our parking lot safe. If you haven’t had a chance to read the letter, please open this link >> Safety Letter to Thurston Community.
HOME SAFETY TIP: Stay Alert! Parking lots can be very busy and difficult places to see everything that is happening. Because it seems so clear to you, it is easy to overestimate your child's knowledge about safe behaviors in parking lots. KidsandCars.org suggests teaching your child that parked vehicles may move. They also recommend reminding children that even though they can see a vehicle, the driver may not see them. Talk to your child in an age-appropriate way about the importance of sticking close to you. While we do not want to frighten our kids unnecessarily, we also do not want them to be unaware.
We are coming very close to finishing our class igloo, but are still in need of gallon milk jugs, please keep sending them in!
Thank you to all of you who continue checking your grocery items and clipping those Box Top, each ones gives 10 cents to Thurston School.
