This week we will continue our winter unit study, we will be looking at arctic animals. Our focus letter this week is the letter D. This past week on Thursday we began a 6 week nutrition education program sponsored by Michigan State University Extension programs. Our first topic was germs, I hope your child shared with you the fun experiment we did with germs and a black light. The program will continue this week with the focus on the Grains food group.Kindergarten Round-ups are starting soon, please refer to the Ann Arbor Public School website for a complete schedule of the Ann Arbor Public Schools Kindergarten Round-up dates and times. Thurston's Kindergarten Round up is Thursday, February 22 from 6-7:30. We are also holding a Preschool Open house that night so be sure to pass the word on to any prospective Preschool parents interested in the 18-19 school year.
National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) is Monday, February 12. All parents are invited to come and spend sometime with preschool class for part or all of the day.
Safe Routes to School Tips week of 1/22/18
We are working so hard to create and ensure Safe Routes to School here at Thurston.
HOME SAFETY TIP: Have you heard of the Up and Away, and Out of Sight campaign for safely storing medicine at home? Kids can be curious about medicines, so pick a place to store medication so that is out of reach and out of sight. Be prepared in case of an emergency by adding this number to the Poison Help Center your phones: 1(800)222-1222. Check out this brochure for more information and tips: Medication Safety Brochure
SCHOOL SAFETY TIP: Thurston students can help keep themselves and their friends safe by remembering that we don’t share food at school. Even though you may think you are being a friend, sharing food in the lunchroom is never a good idea. You don’t know if the food you are sharing was in contact with something that might cause a friend to have an allergic reaction. Share stories and friendship instead!
We are coming very close to finishing our class igloo, but are still in need of gallon milk jugs, please keep sending them in!
Thank you to all of you who continue checking your grocery items and clipping those Box Top, each ones gives 10 cents to Thurston School.
