This week we will continue our unit study comparing and contrasting The Gingerbread Man Stories. Our letter focus will be the letter G. Please help your child identify words that begin with the letter "G" sound.
Preschool will be attending the all school ice skating field trip on Thursday, December 21 at The Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Preschool will be leaving Thurston around 9:30 and returning around 12:45. Lunch will be provided and eaten at The Ice Cube before returning to Thurston. There are many volunteering opportunities for this event. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this event please speak with Mrs. Geidner.
Now that the snow is falling and staying on the ground preschool would like to request that you enter through the main vestibule doors located outside of the preschool room door (where you wait at pick up). If the doors are locked there is a buzzer system, please press the button and you will hear a buzz unlocking the door. If you are dropping off for before care you will still need to enter through Thurston's main entrance. The preschoolers boots should be placed outside of the preschool room by their backpacks. We are trying to keep as much wetness outside of the room as possible. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
With the colder weather please make sure your preschooler is dressed appropriately, the preschool room can be chilly on certain days and we are continuing to go outside twice daily to play unless the temperature or wind chill is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Extra winter clothing such as snow pants, boots, or a light jacket for the room are fine to leave at preschool. When purchasing winter items for your child please look to see if they are child friendly. We encourage the preschoolers to dress themselves for outside play; pull on snow pants, pull on boots ( not tie) and mittens over gloves help your child to gain independence in dressing themselves. Rest time bags went home this weekend, please check and make sure your child has a season appropriate change of extra clothes included, especially socks, when you return the rest time bag on Monday.
We are working so hard to create and ensure Safe Routes to School here at Thurston. Each week we will add safety tip.
- SCHOOL SAFETY TIP: Winter weather has started to make an appearance, please use extra caution and patience in our school zone. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
- HOME SAFETY TIP: Driving in the snow? Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids. Don’t try to get moving in a hurry. And take time to slow down for a stoplight. Remember: It takes longer to slow down on icy roads.
Please continue to look at your packaged goods for Box Top for Education, they are on a variety of products. Thurston school participates in this program and receives 10 cents for every box top turned in.
