Hello Preschool Parents,

The permission slip to go on the all school ice skating field trip on December 20, came home last week and are DUE this Monday December 9. All friends are invited to attend, if your child is not a Friday friend they will need to be picked up from preschool when we return back to school at 12:30. Please read the following information from Ms. York and Mrs. Callahan, if you have any additional questions please let me know. All School Ice Skating Event is coming…
Dear Families,
It is time for our annual Ice Skating Event at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube! Thanks to our amazing PTO and Thurston Families, Friday, December 20, 2019, we will take to the ice with our entire Heron Family. Of course we can not have this type of event without your amazing support. Please use the following link to sign-up: Herons On Ice Volunteer Sign-Up
While we can't all be on the ice at the same time, it is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to have a common experience, that everyone gets to enjoy. As you prepare for this celebration, here are a few things that you will need to know:
1. Please be sure to make sure your permission slip has been returned to your classroom teacher. It is important that both sides are completed and signed. Incomplete forms may result in permission slips being returned or students not being able to participate.
2. Students need outdoor winter gear (snow pants, winter coat, gloves, hats, etc.).
3. Please do your best to send bicycle helmets from home for each student.
4. Wear long socks to protect your shins (ex. Mid-Calf, Tube Socks, Soccer Socks, etc.).
5. No Lunch Needed - We will be having cheese pizza. If you have a child that cannot have pizza please provide a packed lunch from home.
6. Personal Ice Skates - Because of the blades, personal ice skates are not allowed at school or on the bus. We have arranged for a parent volunteer to collect skates in the morning and deliver them to the Ice Cube. If you have skates from home that you can send we would really appreciate it because small skate sizes are limited!
7. Adult skaters will be provided a waiver at the Ice Cube. We welcome experienced skaters to skate along and support the students. Your help on the ice with all students will help to make their celebration a successful experience.
Ms. York & Ms. Callahan
Please read the following note from Ms. B our school librarian: Dear Families, Please come to our special 300 Books celebration on Thursday, December 12 from 4:30-5:45. We will have raffles for books and other reading related items, cool coloring pages, family check out, and a special winter story at 4:45. We look forward to seeing you!
With the colder weather please make sure your preschooler is dressed appropriately, the preschool room can be chilly on certain days and we are continuing to go outside twice daily to play. We encourage the preschoolers to dress themselves for outside play; please encourage your child to do this for themselves at home also, this will help your child to gain independence in dressing themselves. Please remember when your child wears boots, boots are placed beside the sensory table by the coat rack, this helps to keep the wetness out of the library area. Please remind your preschoolers throwing snow/snowballs is not allowed on Thurston's school grounds, and we also encourage the preschoolers not to eat the snow.
As we approach the holiday season PLEASE consider coming in and sharing a holiday custom/tradition you do with your family. For example; an activity that you do with your family that you could share with preschool, a special story that tells about your families holiday/tradition, a holiday game preschool could play, or just share what your holiday tradition is and how your family celebrates. As a preschool family we encourage our preschoolers to share and learn about the similarities and differences among our at home families. If you are interested in sharing with preschool please contact Mrs. Geidner.
Please check for the envelope your child's report card came in, it would be greatly appreciated if you could return it to preschool to be reused to send home their winter report card.
Upcoming Events:
December 20 Ice Skating event at the A2Ice Cube (preschool time is 9:15-12:30)
December 23- January 3 NO SCHOOL Winter Break
January 6 . School Resumes
Just a reminder that if your child is going to be absent please contact the preschool room at 734-997-1243 or send an email to Mrs. Geidner. This number rings the preschool room directly, if we are out of the room you may also leave a message.
Thank you for your continued support.
